visionoffoundersmall1This summer at the 2012 NOAC the lodge was astonished at the inclusion of our old brotherhood flap in the 100th OA Anniversary painting by official BSA artist Joseph Csatari. The story behind the painting is even more remarkable. The artist chose the 5 most influential lodges in the Order's first 100 years to accompany Unami #1 in the parade of flaps. We are lucky and honored to be there. We should give our thanks to former Lodge Adviser and Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Del Loder who is the main reason for our inclusion.

The painting, Visions of the Founder, is an art piece featuring a young E. Urner Goodman explaining to two Scouts what he envisions for the Order of the Arrow. This vision is of the things of the spirit - brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service - and is depicted in the painting's background.

Limited edition prints and Glisees are available from the National OA Endowment and fully support the work of the endowment.

longhouseconstruction157The grand opening weekend of the longhouse April 12 - 14 is fast approaching! Our wonderful contractors are close to being finished with the overall structure of the building and finishing work will soon begin.
During winter break lodge members had the opportunity to help out the project. Over two weekends members cleaned up the construction site, and began the process of cleaning the old siding.

When the old building was carefully de-constructed members knew it was important to save as much as possible. Because of their conservation efforts parts of the old building will survive in the new. The original siding taken from ancient cedar trees from the camp property and lovingly hand split by members of the lodge in the late 1950's and early 1960's will now adorn the front of the building. The tight grains and deep tones of the heartwood were clearly evident as the first courses of siding went up this past weekend.

There will be more opportunities to serve. You can follow us on Facebook or on our longhouse site for project information and notification of the next work party.

Happy New Year! Section W-1N is ready to kick start 2013 with completing some of the final preparations of Conclave 2013: One Great Light. There is much to look forward to for Conclave this year! First of all, there will be a demonstration of the new Brotherhood Ceremony approved by the National Committee at the National Planning Meeting held in Dallas, Texas the week after Christmas. Also, new and improved training sessions will occur where you can start or work on your degree from Section W-1N's Teaquan Wask University. These training sessions can help improve ceremonial skills, leadership skills, give you a jumpstart as a new Arrowman, or expand your horizons on outdoor adventure. Plus, there will be plenty of fun activities and inspirational shows to make sure your Conclave experience is the best. Registration will be open on the evening of Thursday, January 10, 2013. VigilHonorTriangleMy fellow brothers in the Wimachtendienk W. W., it is with great pleasure to announce to you the beginning of the search for the 2013 T'Kope Kwiskwis Vigil Honor Class. This process over the next few months will allow you, the members of the lodge, to nominate eligible candidates for consideration by our committee.

The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or more of the following: the T'Kope Kwiskwis Lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or our Council's Camps. Under no circumstances should tenure in Scouting or the Order of the Arrow be considered as reason enough for a Vigil Honor recommendation.

Recommendation letters to the committee must be typed, explain how the member has contributed to one or more of the four areas listed above, and why you think that person deserves the highest recognition that our Order can bestow. All recommendation letters must be turned into the Council's Scout Office by May 15th 2013. Although it is not required, please include your name and contact information on the recommendation letter so we might contact you if we have any questions or seek further input. If you can please include English suggestions of an appropriate and honorable Vigil name for the nominee so the committee might make better and more enlightened decisions when bestowing names upon the new Vigil class. If you are a Vigil Honor member please note if you would be willing to sponsor the candidate at the time of their Vigil.

milestone01As part of the preparations for the ginormously large 100th Birthday of the Order of the Arrow the national committee has created what is called the Legacy Project 2015. Each year lodges are given one task called Milestones from now until the big celebration at NOAC 2015 . The 2012 Milestone has T'Kope Rock'n the OA 100th.

From oa-bsa.org , "As part of the 100th anniversary of the Order of the Arrow, a commemorative fireplace will be constructed. This fireplace will be onsite at the National Order of the Arrow Conference in 2015. All lodges are invited to participate in this endeavor by securing a rock and having it engraved with your lodge name and council city to be used in the construction of this fireplace."
