firstaidAny unit that ventures off the beaten path needs this certification. 16 hours of hands on training at Camp Pigott March 13-15. The cost is $20.00 for the weekend and class size is limited, must be 14 years old to participate. This oportunity is only open to "dues paid" Order of the Arrow members. Here's what you'll be signing up for:

"Wilderness and Remote First Aid is now required for each of the National Scout
Camps (Philmont, Sea Base, Northern Tier & The Summit), Jamboree and it is also highly recommended for any other high adventure outings in the BSA program. Most of the National facilities now require a min of 2 members on a crew to have this certification - which is good for 2-years from the certification date.

You must have at a minimum a current certification in CPR/AED from Red Cross or a
similar agency to attend. It is highly recommended that a current certification in Basic First Aid also be held by attendees. Attendees are required to bring all their gear, including their crew First Aid kits, as if attending an overnight / hiking event. We will use the gear as part of the practical portions of the class, and just like you would be on the trail - if you don't have it with you - you simply are without it. Pack your backpacks with everything for a 2-3 day outing, except for any food and cooking gear...you'll need everything else.

Attendees will also need to bring their own personal lunches/food/beverages for Friday evening. The other meals will consist of some "working time" during the meals (Sat lunch and dinner). We have a large amount of material to cover, and we will not have time for people to run from class to get food. Bring your Nalgene bottle for water.

Recommended clothing is what you'd wear on a hike, and we shall be outdoors for part
of the class - during the practical training, so rain-gear is also required, and your clothing must be appropriate for the weather. A small ground-pad or seat is highly recommended as you will be lying on the ground outside as a "casualty"."
