Dear Order of the Arrow Candidates,

You all have been waiting more than patiently these past few months and I want to thank you for that. Unfortunately, I am going to ask you all to lean on this strength again. I am less than pleased to inform you that the August Induction Weekend has been cancelled. It was planned to be at Camp Sheppard on the last weekend of August, but due to the rising rates in Covid-19 cases, we can’t justify something that has the potential to hurt you and your families. I was really hoping that we would get the opportunity to be together and we could all meet new faces and friends, but needless to say, this is best done when nobody has the potential to go home wheezing.

We made this decision after much discussion and careful deliberation at our last leaders’ meeting. Your health and the health of your families as well as our current members is not something that we take lightly. Not to mention that shortly after this decision our governor announced that the Phase 3 limitations for gatherings has decreased from 50 people to 10.

It pains me greatly that we have to put this off, but we want to meet you all when we can afford the luxury of camaraderie and a sense of togetherness. (Hard to do when you have to shout at the adults because six feet apart is a bit too far for them to be able to hear you.)

However, we still want to get to know you all and for you to get to know us and we’re tired of waiting. Since we have time to plan other things because of the cancellation of the August Induction Weekend we are going to put together some online meetings that will be opportunities to chat with one another and play some online games. (Good ones, we promise.)

I will keep you posted on further developments regarding these little pow-wows and the upcoming induction weekends. Currently the induction weekends are scheduled for:

  • April 16-18, 2021 (Camp Pigott/Edward)
  • June 4-6, 2021 (Camp Parsons)
  • August 27-29, 2021 (Camp Sheppard)

I know that you all keep hearing it constantly, but we really mean it when we thank you for your patience and winning attitude. It makes me very happy when I talk to those of you that want to join us. I am very encouraged by the energy. I want to make this happen as soon as possible. Until then, please stay safe, be wonderful, and go out and pick some local berries.

Yours in Service,
Caroline Rich
